Description
Santa Fe Railroad's iconic Chicago-to-Los Angeles passenger line, The Super Chief, set the standard for rail service. The diesel-powered, all-Pullman sleeping car train,a first for American railroads, made its maiden run in May of 1936. By 1948 the Super Chief ran daily between Chicago and LA. The trip took just over 36 hours, with speeds reaching 100 mph.
I spotted this Santa Fe boxcar, with its faded Super Chief advertising, in a West Texas field. The vintage look of the boxcar and hint of Texas prairie grass add to the appeal of the scene.
